Qatar has been ruled by the al-Thani family since the mid-1800s and is an independent state with significant oil and natural gas revenues. Blanc de Bierges was selected by David Jarvis Associates when they were engaged as Landscaping Architechts on the British Embassy project in Doha, Qatar.

The physical parameters of the scheme set some unique challenges. Jim Meadowcroft, architect for the project said, “Whatever was chosen would have to meet the exacting requirements for this prestigious project and prove durable, attractive and capable of dealing with the harsh and corrosive environmental conditions in Doha.

The choice quickly boiled down to Blanc de Bierges which met all of the criteria and was selected not only for the vast majority of the paving but some of the external seating as well. The finished product has met all our expectations.”

With the first phase successfully completed, an additional quantity of Blanc de Bierges products was also supplied to the Embassy in Doha to match the existing paving.

Tim Stimpson, the former British Lions rugby player paid a visit to the British Embassy in Doha, to celebrate British-manufactured products being installed.

Tim discovered that Blanc de Bierges high quality paving was selected to complement the Embassy’s clean and elegant appearance and was able to see the stone that had previously been installed and was very impressed:

“It is always good to see British products being used overseas and the paving really fits with the classic yet contemporary look of the building. It was a privilege to be able to visit today and present the Embassy with a British Lions rugby shirt on behalf of Blanc de Bierges”
